Let me take you all on an inspiring journey of a very hard-working lad, Binong Rongphar from Sarbura Ingti Village, Dolamara, Karbi Anglong, with never-ending faith, hope, determination and courage. Ever enthusiastic Binong, never says ‘no’ or “I can’t do it”. Enrolled with our Deafblind Regional Centre in the year 2020, he also availed our Indus Towers Scholarship support for completing his graduation. Binong has been constantly fighting challenges in his day-to-day life, on account of his vision and hearing condition.
However, not one to give up or quit, he is in fact always keen and eager to learn new things in order to equip himself with skills, ideas and experiences. His college life was a very difficult experience. He called it “hellish” because he was bullied by his peers, and faced constant criticisms from the community as he crossed hurdles of inaccessible environment and attitudinal problems on a daily basis. His grit and determination to become financially independent and his perseverance has somehow helped him overcome a million struggles & challenges.
He completed a Bachelor’sdegree course in English Honours from J.D.S.G College Bokakhat Under Dibrugarh University and is now pursuing a Master’s degree course in English Honours from IGNOU (Indra Gandhi Open University). He is also offering home tutoring services to disadvantaged students in his neighbourhood for nominal charges.
He has been representing adults with deafblindness at many state, regional, and national level conferences, where he advocates for the rights and needs of persons with deafblindness and talks about the challenges, and issues faced by them and shares his experiences of how he overcame these challenges too. He never uses his disability as an excuse to say no and instead always prepares himself to deal with whatever challenges come his way. Binong, is now gearing up for participating in two big events. One is anExchange Visit cum Youth Camp in Nepal that he has been shortlisted for along with 10 other adults with deafblindness from all over India. He is also attending a National Conclave at Delhi, where he will be representing adults with deafblindness from North East India. Congratulations Binong…. We wish you well for all your future endeavours.
