“I was unaware of what vocational skill training is until I joined here in the Vocational Skill Development training as the first batch in 2023. I learned a lot about papercraft and screen-printing skills and now, I can do it myself independently. I feel great to be here and meet my friends and be able to help others in building their skills.” Vishal Bora
As a Coordinator of the Vocational Training and Skill Development Program at Shishu Sarothi that is supported by IndiGo Reach, I have had the privilege of witnessing some truly inspiring journeys. One such journey is that of Vishal Bora, a young, enthusiastic, and hard-working trained who joined this IndiGoReach supported program in 2023.
Before joining, Vishal says he had no idea of what vocational skill training entailed. But he turned out to be a quick learner and had soon mastered paper craft and screen-printing skills to the point where he could work independently and support his peers as well. Vishal would often told us how great it felt to be part of the program, meet new friends, and find joy in helping others too.
Vishal’s journey, however, was not without its challenges. Living with epilepsy, he faced many hurdles that often hindered his educational pursuits and social interactions. Despite these obstacles, his determination remained unshaken. Medication has been a constant part of his life since childhood.
Watching his transformation as he eagerly learned the work and become a mentor to his classmates has been so heartening. We love to see his dedication and resilience, as he strives to do his best in the paper crafts and screen-printing activities. “Vishal is a quick learner and a friendly student always ready to help others as well” says Gayatri Adhikary -Craft Teacher
Vishal's story is a powerful testament to the potential to thrive and succeed when given the opportunity. His journey at Shishu Sarothi is a shining example of how vocational training can change the quality of a life, of young people like him with epilepsy and other disabilities and help them to make meaningful contributions to our society.
“My son has been showing noticeable improvement in his behaviour and his ability to do tasks given to him. We are grateful to the institution and wish that your commendable work benefits all parents of youths like Vishal, in our society…” Dhiren Bora, father of Vishal Bora.
